The Best Resource To Use To When You Want To Driver Education
Driver Education and Behind the Wheel training in America
In one word it's a joke on you, your kids, and your family. The biggest problem with American drivers is the lack of any real drivers education and testing. Commercial driving schools have 50 kids per class and 3 to 5 cars for behind their wheel training..you do the math. At best driving around a small test course is hardly a test of a driver's ability; it's a test of being able to stop at a stop sign, being able to back up in a straight line, and, if it is a really hard test, being able to parallel park.
Your teen needs to be on the road and NOT in the equivalent of a parking lot. A potential driver needs to be tested on things like: merging into traffic, passing, staying to the right, how to survey intersections, establishing margins of safety, reacting to unusual traffic situations, avoiding collisions, how to drive defensively in general, and how well they can handle emergencies like skidding, spin outs, etc. Yeah, they (sometimes) teach it in drivers ed but they usually don't give your kid any hands-on experience.
You must take the time to get behind the wheel with your teen. This requires your ability to take off your parent hat and be a teacher of all you have personally learned by passing the torch of driving knowledge to your teen. You must learn how to be a coach, who can get your teens attention as to how to survice while driving an automobile. As a coach, you must learn how to coach your beginning driver in as many situations as you can realistically simulate or discuss with your teen.
If you want to rely on the commercial driving schools, you should take one day to really moniter what is going on or not going on in that class room and on the road. You need to do this, the life you save may well be that of your teen.
